Craftsmanship with a Conscience

Making sustainability an achievable goal for everyone’s home. Supporting environmentally sound practices throughout the community. And building gorgeous furniture, cabinets and casework. That’s the IF Green philosophy.

Recycle_ifgreenWhat if where you sit, eat and sleep matters? At IF Green, we think it does.

What if? IF Green is contemporary, original, affordable furniture, cabinets and casework, made only from sustainable products. We offer simple lines and nothing unnecessary. Just strength and timeless beauty. And we ain’t kidding about the sustainable part. Take a look at what we make our furniture out of.

So much for the “What.”  Where does the “Why” come from?

After years in the building and furniture making worlds,  Stephen got tired of the 'trash-and-burn' mentality around building materials, especially wood products.  And as one of the nation’s top progressive strategists, Lisa got tired of rhetoric that too often didn’t get translated into action.

Lisa and Stephen

IF Green Family
For Lisa Grove and Stephen Becker, it started with a mountain bike ride. Then came a dog, a  marriage, a kid and, eventually, an environmentally responsible furniture company.

Stephen is a gifted craftsman and designer from the Kansas prairie, attending University of Kansas and, later, owning a cabinet shop in Lawrence, prior to moving to Portland.

Lisa Grove is a leading Democratic strategist and marketing whiz. She’s also the daughter of a timber executive and toured mills throughout Oregon as a young girl. Her brothers spent summers cutting trees and fighting forest fires while Lisa and her sister created sparks at home with raging family debates about timber policy.

Randy Painter

IF Green: Randy Painter Randy Painter grew up in his father's fine furniture shop just outside of Eugene, Oregon. A second generation fine craftsman, he was placed into his father's apprenticeship program, learning the ways of tradition fine woodworking.

After leaving Eugene, he worked his way up through the ranks of other quality shops to the positions of specialty lead and kitchen design at a young age. With over sixteen years of experience, he has come back to the call of his true passion of designing and crafting quality furniture that is both aesthetically pleasing and extremely functional.

As well as his admiration for the classic designs of modern contemporaries, he also credits his love for modern art and music for inspiring his creations.

Jessica Paulson started working with IF Green as an extension of her position working for Lisa’s consulting firm. It started with the website and led to working with Lisa on IF Green’s marketing.

Jessica recently graduated from the University of Oregon with a major in political science and a minor in communication. After graduation she worked in Seattle, Washington for the Washington Food Coalition as a membership outreach coordinator. While in college Jessica was an intern with Washington State Governor Gregoire’s office and throughout college she also was the intern for the Center on Diversity and Community on the University of Oregon’s campus.

While she might not build or design the furniture, as the daughter of a boat builder, she thoroughly enjoys the beautiful designs IF Green produces.
